Mayor Brett P. Smiley, Recreation Department Director Stephen Grace and Parks Superintendent Wendy Nilsson today announced the official reopening of Providence splash pads and pools and the start of summer meal service.  Splash pads are officially reopened today, and pools will open on July 3 but will be closed on July 4 in observation of Independence Day. Free, nutritious summer meals will be available at locations throughout the city for Providence youth 18 and under beginning July 3. 

 

Splash Pads & Pools

During July and August, Providence Splash Pads & Pools will be open Monday through Saturday from 12:00PM to 5:00PM at locations throughout the City: 

·         Al Carrington Splash Pad at Richardson Park, 64 Richardson Street (corner of Richardson Street & Prairie Avenue)  

·         Billy Taylor Park Splash Pad, 124 Camp Street (off Cypress Street)  

·         Miguel Luna Park Splash Pad, 110 Sackett Street (across from Sackett Street Recreation Center)  

·         General Street Park Splash Pad, 11 West Drive, (off Admiral Street)  

·         George West Splash Pad, 1266 Chalkstone Avenue, (corner of Chalkstone & Mt Pleasant Ave)  

·         Fargnoli Park Splash Pad, 945 Smith Street, (close to Academy Ave)  

·         Cabral Park Splash Pad, 505 Wickenden Street, (next to Vartan Gregorian School)  

·         Neutaconkanut Park Splash Pad, 675 Plainfield Street, (near Killingly Street)

Due to repairs and renovations, James Ahern Park Splash Pad will open next week and Harriet & Sayles Park Splash Pad will open mid-July. A new splash pad will be opening at Bucklin Park mid-July.

Summer Meals Program

Similar to previous years, the City of Providence Parks and Recreation Departments will serve free and nutritious meals to all youth ages 18 and under through our Summer Meals Program, which ensures children receive healthy meals when school is out.  Meal service will begin on July 3 and will continue through September 1 at the following locations and times Mondays through Fridays:

Select parks will also have Eat Play Learn Ambassadors that provide free activities from 10AM-2PM at no cost and with no registration required.  

During inclement weather and throughout the summer, times and locations of meal service may change and waterparks and pools may be closed. Residents can call 3-1-1 during business hours for the latest information.
