Massachusetts Peace Groups Rally to Send a message to President Biden about Yemen

Yemen can’t wait: Keep your promise:

  • Stop Supporting the Saudi attack on Yemen
  • End all support for the “pariah” regime in Saudi Arabia

When: Saturday, March 6 From Noon To 1PM

Where: Fresh Pond Shopping Center (Cambridge) Walkway

What: In-person Rally With Masks & Social Distancing

This past week the U.S. government released its report confirming the responsibility of Saudi Arabia’s leader, not only in the killing and dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi, but also of Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman’s “support for using violent measures to silence dissidents abroad”. But these terrible crimes pale in comparison to the havoc and suffering the Saudis have brought upon Yemen, the poorest country in the Middle East.

President Biden raised all of our hopes when he told us we were ending all U.S. involvement in the Yemen war and all “offensive” weapons sales to Saudi Arabia.

He made this announcement after 6 years of the Saudi-U.S. attack on Yemen. That attack and blockade is primarily responsible for the 233,000 deaths by war and starvation and cholera and COVID which has resulted from the destruction of much of Yemen’s infrastructure by the U.S. supported Saudi and UAE bombing. Yet, after 6 years of U.S. and Saudi aggression against Yemen, the Biden administration now says we will protect not Yemen, but Saudi Arabia, from any retaliation for its war crimes.

We demand the President stop creating a false narrative. It is time for the U.S. to immediately cut off all U.S. arms supplies to the Saudis and to stop servicing the Saudi air force (made up of U.S. F-15 jet bombers) to force an end to the Saudi air attack and naval blockade. “What on earth are we doing” asks Louise Coleman of Sherborn,  “supporting a brutal regime that has invaded 2 countries, has spread its extremist ideology throughout the Muslim world, uses violent measures to silence dissidents in other countries, and uses a bone saw to dismember a Washington Post journalist – to say nothing of playing the leading role in creating the world’s greatest humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen. We insist that President Biden end this war immediately and terminate this deadly U.S.-Saudi alliance.”

This rally is organized by Massachusetts Peace Action, the Northeast Office of the American Friends Service Committee, Veterans for Peace, the Peace and Social justice committee of the Friends Meeting in Cambridge, United Against War and Militarism, The Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security, and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. These groups make up the Raytheon Anti-War Coalition.
