I am pleased to see Governor McKee request that Attorney General Peter Neronha conduct an independent investigation “into matters related to the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) wetlands application filed on behalf of Tony Silva for 45 Canning Street in Cumberland.” I called for this action yesterday because the recent contradictory information that has emerged has raised not only ethical concerns, but potential legal concerns in the Rhode Island community and it is incumbent upon the state’s chief law enforcement officer to investigate allegations of this sort.
It is my sincere hope that Attorney General Neronha conducts a thorough, impartial, and apolitical investigation into this matter, and make his findings, conclusions, and any evidence supporting his conclusions public so that Rhode Islanders can have confidence in the integrity of not only their public officials, but in the law enforcement investigation itself.
