The recent and tragic deaths of several prisoners at the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institutions have highlighted the need for urgent reforms in the state’s correctional system. Black Lives Matter Political Action Committee is calling on all Rhode Island residents to support the Solitary Confinement Reform Act (H 6161) in the General Assembly.
The Solitary Confinement Reform Act seeks to address the inhumane and dangerous conditions that many inmates face in solitary confinement. By supporting this bill, we can take a crucial step towards ensuring that Rhode Island’s correctional facilities provide safe and humane treatment for all inmates.
The Black Lives Matter Political Action Committee believes that every person, regardless of their status, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. The conditions that many inmates face in solitary confinement are unacceptable and have a devastating impact on their mental health and well-being.
We urge all residents of Rhode Island to contact their elected representatives and voice their support for the Solitary Confinement Reform Act. Together, we can create a more just and equitable criminal justice system in Rhode Island that promotes the safety and well-being of all inmates.
We stand in solidarity with the families of those who have lost loved ones and call on our elected officials to take immediate action to address this crisis.
