Hundreds of toys and more than $10,000 distributed to community organizations
The Rhode Island State Police today announced that through their Kids, Cops & Christmas initiative, they have been able to distribute hundreds of toys and more than $10,000 to community organizations throughout Rhode Island.
“We are thrilled by the outpouring of support for Kids, Cops and Christmas,” said Colonel James M. Manni, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety. “We reached our fundraising goal through Facebook in less than 72 hours and our corporate partners donated wonderful gifts for us to distribute. We are truly humbled by this overwhelming generosity, particularly at this very difficult time.”
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Rhode Island State Police raised money online to distribute to community organizations and accepted bulk toy donations from several companies including CVS, Cardi’s Furniture, Hasbro, Ocean State Job Lot and Walgreens.
Organizations receiving the donations include:

- A Children’s Friend
- Crossroads Rhode Island
- Family Service of Rhode Island
- Hispanic Ministerial Association of Rhode Island
- Mount Hope Neighborhood Association
- Multi-Cultural Center for All
- We Heart Lives
- Wiggins Village
“We hope that these efforts will help ease the stress for families that are struggling,” said Captain Kenneth Jones of the Community, Diversity and Equity Unit. “This pandemic has changed so many things for kids this year and we appreciate the opportunity to brighten their holidays.”
