U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) will host a press conference alongside Rhode Island government ethics watchdogs

February 19

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. ET, U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) will host a press conference alongside Rhode Island government ethics watchdogs and advocates to discuss the introduction of his bipartisan bill to ban Members of Congress from trading individual stocks.

Magaziner’s Transparent Representation Upholding Service and Trust (TRUST) in Congress Act seeks to rebuild public trust by cracking down on insider trading by elected officials. The bill, introduced alongside Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21), requires Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children to sell their individual stocks or place them in a blind trust while in office—ensuring they can’t profit from their position in government.

Since its initial introduction in 2020 by now retired Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), the TRUST in Congress Act has gained bipartisan support as momentum grows to ban congressional stock trading. During the press conference, Magaziner and other speakers will discuss the bill’s significance, its current status, and why it is good for Rhode Island.

U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02)

Christine Stenning, League of Women Voters of Newport County President & League of Women Voters Rhode Island State Board Member
