He’s baaaack! Although, truth be told, did he ever really go away?
Now Former Woonsocket City Council Chair John Ward made good on his promise to stay involved in Woonsocket affairs … albeit as a private citizen, today, with the release of his formal objection to the “reclassification” of Woonsocket’s RISE Academy from Mayoral Academy to Charter School status.
Citing, among other objections, the disparity between the education needs of RISE versus the more exacting demands of the educationally diverse student body of the Woonsocket Education Department, as well as the projected $500K increase in costs to an overburdened Woonsocket tax base, Ward urged Rhode Island Department of Education Commissioner Infante-Green to instead focus on a oft disparaged state funding system that favors wealthier suburban school districts.
