From The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society:

As results continue to come in from this week’s midterm elections, HIAS stands ready to work with the next Congress to rebuild the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) and strengthen the legal right to asylum in the United States.

“We’re looking forward to engaging with new and returning lawmakers as they work in their oversight role to get USRAP back on track and advance the reforms necessary to meet the Biden administration’s refugee admissions target of 125,000 for Fiscal Year 2023,” said Naomi Steinberg, HIAS’ Vice President, U.S. Policy and Advocacy. “We are also eager to work with the new Congress to help restore access to a legal, humane and efficient asylum system.”

“A robust refugee admissions program and asylum process have been central to American policy, identity and values for decades, and it is time for the U.S. to reclaim its position of leadership in welcoming refugees, asylum seekers and other displaced people.”
